I have a Voyager. As a speedo device it's OK. As a GPS it is painful. With enough screwing around the RideLeader software can manipulte tracks. The biggest problem is waypoint handling.

You can't control what is displayed on the screen for a waypoint. They are numbered and you can't sort them. The rename function is useless as it only attaches a label to the waypoint. This label is not shown on the map screen so the waypoint is basically unknown.

Get a Garmin Montana for the GPS function and the most basic other device that will do speedo/ODO work.

Been working on all the settings today to make sure I haven't missed any configuration that could make the unit more versatile. No luck. You should also know that the built-in compass displays poorly.

I checked on the Montana 650T, it is about $600.00. What type of mount would you use that would protect the unit from damage. I have seen the Garmin ram mounts but that exposes the unit to damage in a cartwheel.(I tend to crash alot.....LOL).

I went through the thread. You are absolutely right that the Voyager is like a Model T Ford and the Garmin is a Porsche. The problem is the size and the mount. If you ride in rough tight whoop filled singletrack the mount for the Garmin won't hold the unit in place and exposes the unit to damage in a crash. On ADVRider several people complained that the ball on the Garmin mount would not keep the unit in position. I am open to any suggestions for mounting the Montana. The lowest price that I have found is about $550.00 plus shipping. The Voyager retails for $279.00 and the protector mount is about $89.00 additional. So the price differential isn't that much. I'll be mounting this on a 2011 GG EC 300 with electric start. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I almost hate to add to the confusion here, but I've been seriously considering getting a Garmin Edge. There are several iterations of it, and I'm looking at the low end most basic model, I think it's called the Edge 200. It has heart rate monitor functions too. Seems cool, and is less than $300. It's small enough that the spedometer function may be difficult to read whilst under way, but I don't use it that way. Just for miles traveled, average speed, etc.. I do like to look at the speedometer occasionally, but since mine crapped out about six months ago, I guess I don't really need it that much...

I've had an original Etrex Legend for over ten years, recorded a lot of tracks on it. Its a serial interface so not compatible with new Mac, plus the screen is monochrome and small, very hard to read, and just about impossible when moving. I'll probably get the new Etrex 20 to replace it this winter.
