i can probably put together a kit where everything could be taken apart with 3 allen wrenches...(or maybe 2 even) - doing the whole bike could get expensive. what if it was motor, plastics, triple tree, subframe. all socket allen. am i missing anything? even that is more than you'd dissasemble on a trail...

I like that idea.

Nice kit, but I'm not a fan of a allen on dirt bikes, they fill with dirt and strip easier...of course JMHO
I like the shoulderd bolts used on Jap bikes...if you had a replacement kit like that I'd buy it in a heart beat.

i too like the flanged japanese style hex heads. unfortunately, they are impossible for us to polish. since 99% of our business is polished stainless, we never got into them.. i've not had much problems with dirt packing into the allens. if you rinse your bike off regularly, it usually comes right out.. allens strip easier? stainless is a lot harder than the mild steel allens you normally see, they do not strip easy. high quality allen wrenches plays a big part of this also. i'm a huge fan of the wera hex plus t handles. extremely well built tools...

The 2010 gassers have the flanged hex head bolts on the engine instead of the allens. Other fasteners are easier to use or get to (ever try to remove or replace the airbox covers on an 07 - 09 bike). Some fasteners need only one tool now not two to remove.
Back to the original thread - I think it's great that we now have these stainless bolt kits available.

I know you do polished for street bikes, but do dirt bike riders want/need polished? It's a dirt bike! They get dirty. I'd rather have the convenience of consistent sizes than polished.

The new KTMs use really cool fasteners: flanged fasteners with both torx (internal) and hex (external) heads on the same bolt. They save weight AND provide dual functionality.

Do that in stainless, and you'd be HUGE.

just a thought.
