Default OEM Exhaust "Breather"

Hi all,

Just broke my FMF exhaust and am thinking of installing the OEM exhaust.

I bought the bike used and only now I've looked at the OEM exhaust.

It has some kind of breather, one small pipe that looks like it's supposed to connect to someplace.

Can anyone explain this to me?

It's for the fresh air injection, part of the EU emissions requirements.
May have a catalytic converter in the pipe.

Could I cut away this piece and solder the exhaust closed?

Would it have any performance being fitted with a catalytic converter?

Yes. Cap the tube off.
You can knock the converter media out. Should just break apart.

How could I do that? I'm talking about the exhaust "balloon", not the silencer.

Use a long heavy rod to break it apart. Or. Cut the pipe open, remove the media, then reweld it.

Do a thread search for cat remove on black pipes. Has to be cut to effectively remove it. We did my pipe on my 07 and it runs great as well as the non cat version.
