Default '12 airboot.

So i have just been cleaning my 300's airfilter only to find just like the original filter it has what looks to be wear marks on it from rubbing against the rear wheel side of the airbox. The filter is stuffed so with 2 filters buggered i start looking why? And it seems the bottom of the airboot is peeling away from the airbox by about 10mm so im thinking this is why it is rubbing on the rear of the box? It also looks like inside the boot is delaminating! I think i have a faulty boot Anyone else had this? Not real happy when its my first day of 2 weeks off and wont be able to ride for the whole time aghhh.

Since '07, they have used that airboot design that captures the air box wall in an "H" gasket groove, and provides direct sealing of the filter on the inside flange. An airtight seal between the air box and airboot does not matter, just the filter to airboot flange. What sounds like is happening in your case is that the air box has shifted forward for some reason, causing the airboot to separate from the air box in this area. The boot is molded so I doubt its delaminating. Pull it all apart and you will se what I mean. The air box itself is pop riveted together. You can drill and replace these or use M4 screws and nuts.

It is delaminating as it is doing it on the outside also. It is thin layers of rubber like sticky tape thickness peeling off. I see what you mean by the design but where the boot has moved at the bottom it is forcing the filter back against rear wall of the box.

Thats odd. For sure get a new boot from the dealer. Try to determine if the air box has moved or if its just the boot.

When i look at the filter some more it looks more as if something has melted it. It has not been washed prior to removing it this time. Im a bit confused now

Get some pics up Nato. Send a couple off to your dealer too. I don't doubt they'll have a new one sent out by close of business.

Well strange. Is the opening in the airbox still within the groove of the boot? It hasn't pulled or pushed through while flipping the subframe up?? That still doesn't explain the rubber doing the crazy. Haven't changed cleaning products or lubes or anything like that??
