The air screw is set to riding conditions and is adjusted at least once every ride. Well, I know a lot don't do it but you are supposed to for best throttle response. You normally want to be about 1.5 turns out as a general guide.

Does your have a PWK carb? Check to make sure your float isn't adjusted too high, that the jet block gasket isn't leaking, that the jets are clean and genuine OEM brand, and that the hole the needle slides through is perfectly round and not slightly oblong. If it's the original carb it's possible it's just worn out.

In the carb section there is a sticky up the top. You have an AS1 carb.

Also do a read through while yer there. Standard needle requires a mod. N1FE or any N1 variant, written on the side?. Get some really sturdy cutters and lop it in two. That is part one of getting the bike running properly.

Now you need to buy a new needle and you won't be distracted thinking about trying to make it work with the stock needle. Read threads, buy another needle and enjoy.
