Default Ball bearing in fuel tank?

I had my tank off today and heard something rolling around in there when putting it back on. I stopped and investigated to find a rather large metal ball.

Strange. I almost hate to ask. Is this on purpose? Part of the reserve actuation? I removed it.

Increases fuel mileage by aligning the fuel molecules. Should be magnetic.

Ahhhhhhh, I see. Must have been some of that help I got at the Idaho qualifier after running out of fuel on day one.

Seriously, I think it was from the original gas cap.
