PV & Water pump bearing removal.

Any tips on getting these little dudes out? My blind bearing puller set doesn't have a puller small enough to fit these two. They have a slight grind feel so I definitely want to replace them with the rest.

Heat the cases up with a torch/heat gun, or pop the whole thing in the oven if the missus is out. 120C should have the falling straight out. And the new ones will drop right in. The biggest issue I faced was getting the bearings to stay in from both sides. Turning it over when hot to put the others in would have others wanting to slide back out.

Only bearings that needed a blind puller for me (that wouldn't drop out with heat alone) were the needle rollers for the transmission.

Using the oven has got me in trouble with the wife, tends to smell like cooked oil for a while. (just a heads up)

The BBQ grill is another option to keep the smell outside. I have also used a torch to heat the area around the bearing to 150F (verified with IR thermometer). If all else fails I have also used a slide hammer for the small ones, but you need to work your way around to prevent it from cocking and binding.

ahh the good old Barbie. I've used it a couple of times in last week to melt some Vinamold to check 2 stroke transfer ports I was modifying. Got a bit smoky so it was a good call, close the house windows.

Felt strange not having a beer in hand so make sure you've got that base covered or you'll have to run inside mid process

I use a heat gun to heat up the case, then tap the case flat onto the work bench. The bearings fall right out.

I freeze the new bearings overnight and they drop right in.

I used a torch a little bit but I probably need to get it a little warmer and then a solid smack from the back. Will give it a shot, thanks!

So...no dice on heat. Little bastards were stuck.

I picked the oil seal out and was able to get a needle nose vise grips on it. Grabbed that and gave the case a couple wacks with a mallet. Center of the bearing popped out, then I used the blind puller on the outer housing. Not exactly protocol but it worked.

What was the consensus on main bearings - sealed or not sealed? The ones I pulled out of the motor have seals.
