So would it be possible to drop a 2012 crank into 2011 cases?

bearings and seals appear to be the same. BUT case numbers are not the same - i don't know if case numbers changed just so they can stamp them as 2012 cases - i don't know if case numbers change each year, while still be the same.... don't know what has changed. it's possible the right case changed to accommodate possible changes with inner clutch cover, or the crankcase volume has changed (potentially smaller to deal with no stuffers?)

I have read somwhere that the 2013 is back to the aluminium clutchcover again..
Can some of you confirm that??

And does anyone know why they changed back, after all the hype last year about the new style cover that should increase oilflow to the chutch.

I took the clutch cover off of a '13 last night. Cast inside is a part number that started Mg-ME25xxxxx.

It would appear that the cover is now magnesium, while taking the shape of the pre-2012 cover. The oil directing channels from the composite cover are absent.

The issue with the 2012 composite cover seem to have been related to lack of secondary processing on the 'sealing' edge ... the sad fact is that they tended to be wavy and not to seal well. The issues were worse at operating temps.

Thanks for the reply, I'm shopping for a new cover, and the '12 is really cheap compared to the '13 and the pre '12 alu covers, but since I read that the '13 get the old style cover back, I wanted to check if something's wrong with the '12 cover.

And even though the old style is 4 times more expensive than the '12 cover, it'll be worth it to keep the oil INSIDE the engine

The oil grooves on the inside of the '12 cover end up in a channel (like half a pipe) protruding 7-8 millimeters into the clutch centre. I'll post a pic later, have one of those laying around.

Thanks bergerhag.
But I know how the cover looks inside. and I really liked the idea of that design..

Did you run your bike with the '12 cover?

And If you run it, did it leak?

the leaking problem seems to be the reason they changed back to the old style cover, but did not see any, or talk to anyone that had any problems with their '12 cover leaking..

BTW. If you just have it laying around, could I borrow it,or would you sell it to me? Just want to do some measuring on the "funnel", maybe then, I could make up a aluminium cover with the funnel feature from the '12

I did not run it on the '10 as my plan was, since it did not fit. I now have a '12, thus keeping the cover as a spare.

If you come get it you can borrow it, shipping is out of the question since the shipping costs would outweigh buying one.

so.. you have a '12.. did you have any problems with the cover leaking?
Where in Sweden are you located? I just might head your way some day and do some measuring, if you're not too far up north.
I just love those Swedish single track's do you have any near your place?

I live in Timraa, that's 400 km north of Stockholm. We have only rocky and muddy single tracks up here.

No, the '12 clutch cover is not leaking.
