Default 3 piece sprocket

This is what ended my ride on Saterday , lucky we were about 15m from the top of the last rutted out hill climb. managed to cable tie the chain out of the way and freeweel back to the car.

Anyone else had somthing like this happen? - maybe there should be a new sticky thread for "Dings & dents" showing off broken parts.

That sprocket has been hammered into oblivion. No wonder it broke; it was well past its service life.

Proper maintenance will (generally) keep you from getting stranded. I would never ride on a sprocket that worn.

Didn't look to bad to me! Clearly replacement time I agree.
Normally you'd just lose the teeth and the chain would slip. Shouldn't break up - why would it? I reckon it got something in there like a small stone that did it.
