FSE450 fan
My fan doesn't turn on, but will run when I jumper power to it. I'm looking for the water temp sensor (assuming that controls the fan) and any ways to test what's going on. I'm tempted to just put a manual switch on for the ride next weekend, but would like an actual fix.
The manual didn't seem to be much help of course. |

Start the bike let it idle for a few minutes...either the fan will come on or your bike will boil over...
I did that to my 510...it took about 5 mins before the fan came on if I remember correctly. It was a loooong 5 mins while waiting.

Get your bike hooked up to the Technoresearch VDST software, then you can get a readout of all the sensors, and test the fan control.
You can also jump the connection under the fan relay, with ignition on(in priimer mode) or bike running, the fan should come alive ..But perhaps that is what you did. The temp sensor is located on the rear of the cylinder head, on the left side. You can test it wit a simple multimeter: EFI controls the fan, using the same sensor for fan control and fuel mix, so if the bike is running fine in all temperature ranges, the sensor is likely ok. Ohm readouts on different temps: (centigrade) Quote:

5 minutes seems a long time as it gets very hot before even then. Perhaps I wasn't waiting long enough, but I was concerned because it was getting extremely hot when I did a ride in Leaf River
For now I put a manual switch on by plugging into the fan harness so no harm done - I will give it another look after the ride next weekend. Thanks! |
