Default 02 ec 250 starting problem

Hello gang,

Trying to help out friend of mine who just got 02 ec250 and has a hard time starting it.

Bike will start after some serious kicking. Will always start. But Hot or cold it will take some serious kicking. Choke does not make it easier to start when hot.

It will idle fine, but that can just cut of. Very abruptly. Raising idle does not help. But i did not raise idle to screaming levels. It will idle fine and then just cut off.

Once moving, it's a beast. Hard to keep front wheel down. Seems to have almost same amour of power as my 300.

Headlight is always off.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks a lot!

Thank,
Will try to take it apart and clean out and put new plug in. Old plug looked pretty good to me.

My concern is that it shuts of at idle. Would run ..run..seemingly fine and then just cut off, instantly.

Guy who he bought the bike from said that engine had new top end recently...but I guess it's worth taking a look inside.

What's the best place to get complete gasket kit? Top end gasket kit?

Do you think air leaks from crankcase can cause this?

Both of us are new to 2 strokes.

We switched from 4 strokes.

two strokes are easy mate a lot less stuff to go wrong.
you can just get a base gasket and leave the head on. did the fella give you any receipt for new pistons etc
its a carb or plug I bet ya. strip and wash the carb in old petrol and blow out with a air line if not you can get carb cleaner in a spray can.
set the mixture screw to 1 1/2 turns just pull the dial screw and check its not damaged

just a few tip and some bits to look at where in this wide would are you from

We rode only twice since he bought the bike, both times it was barely above freezing with snow on the ground. But above freezing. I would say no more than +5C
