Default fuel coming out vent hoses when petcock switched to reserve

I just pressure washed my bike ( I know, I know), got home and fired it up to burn up any h20 that got in the pipe. I rode around the neighborhood for a 1/4 mile or so and the bike died and wouldnt start again. It would turn over but not fire.
I got it home and thought maybe I was low on gas so I switched it to reserve. Thats when gas started coming out the bottom float bowl vent hose, and also one of the top vents/hose.
I can hear the slide move when I twist the throttle. Any thoughts before I dig into the carb?

Yep float is stuck. It drained all your gas when you weren't looking and then when you switched to reserve it continued to drain your gas.

I had just put in a new float needle before the weekend of riding. Maybe 8 hours of ride time.

It kind of seems like the slide is stuck though. I held a 12 oz jar under the vent hoses and let it fill up while it was on reserve. Fuel coming out the bottom and top vent lines.

I just put in more gas and with the petcock "on" it's just coming from the float bowl vent.

Slide is completely independent from the fuel overflow. The fuel is overflowing from the float bowl through the vent tubes because the float needle is sticking open. It's not an indicator of a worn float needle, just that it's stuck.

Give the body of the carb a couple if decent whacks with the handle of a screwdriver, that should knock the needle back into place. Also, shut off the gas before the fuel starts draining into the cylinder (too late). Pull the spark plug, kick it over a couple of times to clear the cylinder, reinstall the plug and have a go at the starter. All with the gas turned off. once it's running turn the fuel tap on and check that it isn't still overflowing; if it is, give it another couple of whacks with the screwdriver. If that doesn't work, time to pull the bowl and look at the float needle.

Anyone know when (in gallons/litres) a stock 11' tank hits reserve? I rode 60 something miles of fast/slow singletrack on a full tank and it was for sure pretty drained when it quit on me tonight.

Sounds good, Thanks

reserve is about 1 litre. 60miles sounds about right before hitting reserve (depending on how agressive you ride!), doubt you were loosing any fuel on the ride

Is there supposed to be an o ring down in the hole that the float needle seats into?
