Default Lost some coolant??

Hello all, just went over the bike before some riding this weekend and noticed the coolant was low. Figured I'd post this to the calvary to have a check list for tomorrow.

So gasser is a 12' ec300r
It has no external leaks
It had coolant up to the cap before the ride last weekend
Was checked on a stand and level both times
No white smoke or anything strange in exhaust
Nothing funny with shifting
Lost about a inch of fluid (just under the first horizontal divider)
Was not ran very hard or hot that day

So is this an issue? My kdx never faultered on it's level, but it also had a bottle. The bike spent some time on it's side, could it spill? Simply burn off? Or something else that is perfectly normal? Everything I'm finding is leaks to the motor or tranny. I don't have much experience and I'll appreciate any knowledge on the subject!

Sounds normal to me.The cooling system finds its own level.Usualy half way down the tank under the cap.

Yep! Will usually spit out any excess as it expands under pressure.

Generally the right height is just over the fins.

I had this problem on my 2012 ec300. I removed the radiators to make a pressure leak-down test. I found a pekuliar cap problem. When the pressure got to the cap release pressure it started to blow, as it should. But it did not stop blowing as the pressure dropped. It just kept on leaking until pressure was zero. I inspected the seal and seat for burrs and irregularities - nothing.

I finally got it to stop by greasing the seal rubber with an aluminium paste grease. I suppose any water proof grease will do. Now it never loses any coolant.

Also check the inner lip/sealing surface of the rad. Any casting flaws could potentially allow fluids to leak past under pressure.

I had pine hole leaks in my rad a couple of weeks ago...I was losing some fluid and it kept boiling. . remove the rad.attach a air house to an inlet/outlet..submerge it in a tank of water whilst blocking the other holes with your fingers. .let the pressure build a bit and if there is a pin hole u should spot the bubbles straight away. ..thats how I confirmed my leak. ..

Thanks all. I'm going to treat it like growing pains for right now since it is still newish, while keeping a close eye on it. Will keep all the tips in mind if it keeps goin down... On the plus side it gave me and excuse to order some unabiker rad guards!

Oh and the lip and cap seem ok, tho the cap is tough to tell I assume.
