Yes it could be the starter motor. Have your dealer look at it.

Pull the starter motor out (2 bolts and its sealed with an O ring) and put your finger in the hole and see how much resistance you feel turning the gear.

Should be next to nothing. Mine had crunchy bearings and the axle shaft was binding. '18 GP300

That sounds like a bad starter motor to me. Sounds like it has a dead spot in the armature or a sticking brush. Have you pulled it apart to have a look? Or just out to make sure the gear the starter engages with spins freely?

Will check if it have resistance, i got the felling that something is binding and blocking the movement.

Hi Eralha,
I had a win fixing the starter system.
Removed bendix & lightened the spring, polished the inside, cleaned & lubed the gears, made sure they were not binding- a little better but inconsistent.
Got a AS3 bendix cover (really nice gear)- when hot worked better.
Pulled the starter apart & checked it was clean & moving freely.
Put in a Shorei 210cca battery & it started easy.Starts hot every time now but I do kick start when cold.

I did all the same work and mine functions the same. Just make sure to pull the bendix evey 15 to 20 hours or so and clean and relube it up.
