How much did you pick the bike up for?
I don't think you will need the full kick start assembly, you should be able to just purchase the part causing you problems |

So it turns out the kick start fault isn't a slipping issue. When you twist the kick start 90 degrees so that you can start the bike, it actually moves more like 120 degrees. So when you kick the bike over you slip off the starter. I presume its just a problem with the ball and spring that locate it at 90 degrees. I'll have a look tomorrow when I get a minute.

Any particular year/model of Yam? Although I hope I can fix the original one.

I had a quick look at it this morning before work. It seems like the aluminium machined face at the bottom of the kick start is worn, this is allowing it to turn more than 90 degrees. Hopefully it will be an easy fix with a blob of weld and a file.
