Yes, got power last Thursday night. There are pockets of people here still down. Mostly on streets backing to woods where the lines run through the woods. The original access was not maintained in many cases so now this has to be done before any repairs are made. A crew from Virginia got me going. I heard that the local JCPL guys were giving some of the out of state non-union workers crap and not wanting them to work. If true this is really f'd up behavior in this situation. Those guys did a great job considering the mess.

NY turned away some of the crews due to them being non union.

Those crews were here at the request of the governer. The govs office should look into this and fire those involved on the spot. I didn't see a JCPL truck all week, the other guys worked their asses off.

They guys that got me up were from Indiana I think. We were all very welcome to see all the out-of-staters here to help.

In 2005, I hooked up a roll-off container to my truck and went down to Biloxi to help with the Katrina mess. After three days of trying to help, and being run off by paid contractors everywhere I went, I said screw it and went home. Nobody wanted me doing for free what FEMA was paying them to do. Of course, diesel fuel was artificially inflated due to the storm. I paid in excess of $1000 of my own money to get down there and back.
I've asked my wife to remind me of this any time I think of volunteering for something again.

I read a story on Yahoo news that four crews from Alabama were turned away in Garden Heights, New Jersey because they were non union. Two of the crews went on up to NY to help and the other two went back to AL.

Good man. This is a prime example of whats wrong with things here, and even more so in Europe, and why it costs so much to do and make things, driving jobs to China. I wonder if some of the big union supporters would turn away a non-union crew and wait for JCPL if it was their house that was dead for over a week and it was the second consecutive 20 deg morning?

Christy welcomed the non-union workers that NY turned away and those in NJ that tried to turn away workers were reprimanded and rumor is they may not have a job when this all blows over.. He is not my Gov. but I'm liking the butterball more and more every day..

Thumbs up

That is good to hear, and I like the guy too. Says what he thinks and doesn't always care about being PC, which is something for a politician! Refreshing change.
