Going back in time on an EC300.....
After owning an 06,07,09,2010 EC300, and seeing what GasGas has got to offer in 2011, I have picked up a well used 2003 EC300.
I was reminded on the first ride that the early motor (up to 06) is a tractor of a thing, a very friendly motor. Other things I have learnt is it needs a Yamaha kick-starter, suspension revalved and a good change of fluids and a a scrub. I would love to change the rear subframe and plastics, but that is out of the budget. Any suggestions what else I should do to it????? I am going to ride a 3hr extreme enduro on it at the end of next month.

I don't think the new subframe will fit the '03 frame anyway, but I could be wrong. Ditch the subframe loop under the rear fender and replace it with a plastic fender brace, as the loop is a big lever and bends the subframe easy if the fender is hit. Also check your water pump impeller.

Keg, is the '06 really more of a "tractor" than the '07 forward?
I'm really sorry my Smackover links to discussions about the old counterbalanced motors don't work anymore. I'd like to set up an EC 300 to run as smoothly down low as possible, and be "stall-proof." Sorry to throw a question "off your topic." Jeff |

The first GG I rode was a counterbalanced '97. It was a big reason I tried one in the first place. Still awesome without one.

I still love the old motor. I broke a clutch lever the other day and rode through single track with knee high logs across it without any problems.
I have a 98 KX250 steel subframe on it now (still in green). Everything lined up except the seat, so I made a bracket to fit a quick release through it. Not the prettiest thing, but works well. Seeing as I am laid up for a while with an injury (my fault, but the leatt neck brace got a good works out) I will put a piston in it, swap springs and tidy it up a bit. I still have a 2011 EC300E on order as soon as I sell the 2010R I have though.
