According to Steve at GoFasters the new FMF pipe is a Doma copy.To look at the stock GG 06 pipe versus the FMF 08 stock pipe they look very close to the same configuration.
The difference in ignitions ( ie 200 250 300 ) seems to be a mystery also. |

I actually like the FMF pipes. Then again, I'm not a huge rever. I prefer using the 300s torque.

I'm sure its cheaper to import the bike sans pipe and install the made in USA FMF. An OEM GG pipe lists for close to $400.

Ok we have pulled every rabbit out of the hat that we can think of on this one.We have the RB head and carb on the 08. The 06 will out pull the 08 off the bottom and lower mid . The 08 runs good and is very ridable but the 06 has unbelievable torque and power off the bottom. We changed pipes,CDI's,ignition timing nothing has brought the 08 up to the 06. We are going to open the 06 up to see if there has been port work and or check the port timing difference. Also power valve initial height and governor spring. Curiosity is killing us !!!

Did you do a compression test on the '06 and compare it to the '08 ?
Carb (with jetting) between the two? Reed block swap (no spacer)? Make sure the '08 PV is adjusted correctly, that is the plate rests on the stop bolt at idle (will vibrate off slightly from exhaust pulses). I had an '03 250 that was a little flat and found this helped. Finally cylinders. Also, awhile back like pre '01 I beleive, the 300 cranks were not stuffed, only the 250s. Since then they all should be stuffed, and its easy to see if the cylinder is off. |

Correct me if i am wrong but stuffing the crank cases you are making the relation ship between the crank and cases tighter creating a better flow.

The stuffers increase the "compression" on the piston's down stroke.
This speeds up the fuel mixture through the ports. |

Have you tried simply swaping the carbs and heads between the 2 bikes? The RB head work turned my '05 into an animal using an LTR needle with a #8 slide. I had to drop a tooth on the rear sprocket, go back to a #7 slide.

We just took the pipes off of both bikes and looked at the power valve differences and there is a definite difference. The 08 has some ears that drop down on both sides to make it more oval shaped . The 06 is straight across and appears to be less restrictive. The initial height adjustment doesn't look to be too much different using inside calipers to measure. Without taking the heads off both bikes we won't know anymore. The power valve governor spring seems to feel the same. If the 06 is completely stock then GasGas has made an attempt to soften up the hit on the 08. JMHO.
