I have the dyno results from the 2005 european Master Enduro shootout.

2005 Gasgas FSE450, 38.67 hp / 9183 rpm
2005 Gasgas EC300, 42.45 hp / 7745 rpm

The 300 is a rocket

The 300 will have plenty of power it will not be a smooth as the 450 and not as fast at top speed or as happy as the 450 higher up in th rev range at a constant speed, but the 300 is lighter and the way 2 strokes come on the pipe are more fun. I would say the 300 is more powerfull and would out perform a 450 up to 100kms per hour every time, based on riders of the same ability.

All I have ridden lately to compare my ec300 to is an 06 YAMI wr450,2010 rmx450,2010 crf 450,2010 exc 450 & a 2010 husberg FE450.All had a heap of bottom end(except the crf),well planted front ends & smooth linear power. In certain conditions would be an easier ride than the 300.But they also felt heavier & less 'flickable' & the power delivery smooth to the point of....well,boring? It really is a personal thing,I could have bought the Husaberg 450,loved it! But I would not swap my 300 now.Don't be concerned with a lack of power the 2010 300 is seriously fast. And remember it does have the dual ignition curve option.I must admit that on long sandy or whooped out hill climbs the 450's are awesome.

thanks gg3, these 300's must really be a weapon if comparing to a boring 450, would the 300 keep up to a 450 in a straight line from standstill

Pretty much.I reckon the 450 would eventually out run it though.
Get them both on single trail and there is no comparison.

didn't say they weren't fast.As for speed, depends on the 450.The motorcrossers go like hell & use all there gears in 20m,the likes of the WR's & RMX's are not as quick off the mark but will outrun the 300 eventually. If your doing wide open tracks or desert stuff the 450 is probably better. The 300 is great in the trees. The lack of vibration on 450's is noticible as well.

thanks mark for your opinion, when you say there is no comparison on single trails is there really that much difference between them
