Default new 2012 models

I recently read an article in a UK magazine in which they were interviewing Ivan Cervantes about moving to gasgas. although he wasn't giving much away he mentioned there might be a new 2 stroke model for 2012.Also does anyone know when the 2012 models usually start to appear ktm are already out with their models in the UK

After the dealer show, probably late summer. I'm sure Clay will let us know.

New 2-stroke? Maybe a 144 or a production version of that 152 special? That would be very cool.

My nephew, Rod, and I were in Spain three weeks ago and there was no mention of a new model for 2012.

Read in TBM this week that gasgas are releasing a new hybrid trials/trail bike along the lines of the scorpa t-ride/long-ride for 2012 there is a pic, and have to say not to impressed, and there is also a killer picture of Cervantes bike, will try and scan the article for those that can't get the magazine.

Direct injection?Had a dicussion with another 2 stroke nut(KTM rider),about possible direct injection coming out 2012/2013.I brought up a point whether an expansion chamber,in it's current form, would be needed with DI.Can someone with more mechanical knowledge settle the arguement?

General consensus with DI 2 strokes is that an expansion chamber would probably not be necessary. As the main point of the pipe is to pull (scavenge) fuel/air through the chamber for superior combustion, if you are electronically controlling the delivery of fuel/air, then a pipe for scavenging purposes is not really needed.
I think..

Wouldn't the supercharge effect of air scavenging still be important.

You can get achieve a similar effect to an expansion chamber with a tuned (specific) length of constant radius pipe, but on a much narrower band of RPM. I believe that electronic powervalves could be used to help simulate the 2 stroke powerband. The expansion chamber is only really important for high RPM operation, if you consider trials bikes, all 2 stroke trials bikes run constant radius or very nearly, exhausts.
