Help!

HELP!! I decided to loosen(crack)the base valve nuts before I took my forks off. The bike was on the stand with the fork legs extended all the way....wheel not touching the ground. This was fairly easy with a 21mm socket. Immediately after doing this, I tried to tighten the nut back up a bit and but now it spins freely without getting tight again. Any ideas on what happening? Thx for answering this noobie's questions!!

You may have to use an inpact wrench (not recommended).
The damper tube is turning with the nut.

Using an impact wrench to loosen, re-tighten, or both? Sorry...having a hard time understanding this part of the fork looking at the Zoch manual. Is the 'special tooling R5081AA' needed to hold the damper tube in place? My mission is to get the base valve cleaned up and re-tightened. Then go up top and get new fluid in. Hoping I don't have to tear into the fork further

The tool keeps the damper tube from moving as you are experiencing. The impact wrench works without the tool. The issue with impact wrenches is that they can handle > 300ftlb of torque so be carefull.

Thx to all for the replies. I don't have an impact wrench but there is a shop in town if I can't get it to tighten up. Talked to Les and he said I should be able to get it tight by loading up the fork.

Any auto repair shop will be able to do it for you.
Just tell them to give it a "quick tap" with the impact.

Loosen it first with a normal socket and wrench, once they are spinning around then use the impact wrench, but make sure it's on it's "weakest" setting.
Striping that nut is easy.

I love my impact wrench, it has saved my bacon a few times but needs care. Not recommended on small allen or torx screws but it's usually nothing to lose by the time I try it on those!
