Hi, i have 2005 mc 250 engine with only 4 gears. My question, if i want to have 6 gears do i only need to change shift gear set. Would it fit from the same year EC?

Yes it will fit.
They stopped putting the 4 speed trans in 02. My 03 is 6 a speed.

What do you know about the XC versions? Mine is a 2000 with a 6 speed. VIN indicates XC.

XC were what the Knights (importer at that time) got just had different suspension maybe ignition. With the exception of the MC up to 02 all GG have 6 speed unless it has been altered.

You may also need a shift.drum.

Also the XC had USD WP's instead of convention marzochi's and I think the rear shock spring was slightly stiffer, I'm thinking it was 5.1kg vs EC model 4.9kg. 2K2 ignition was lighter/faster revving with less voltage output (35w vs EC model 2k3 @ 60w) The CDI was from the EC200 which had a more aggressive ignition curve. Some have said there was also a higher compression head that was used from the MC models but I've never been able to verify that. The EC models used the spacer plate between the reed cage and the cylinder. The XC does not. Bottom line, the XC was (and mine still is) a fire-breathing go-getter. Most folks prefer the smoother response of the EC models.

That's interesting. Mine came with the spacer between the cylinder and reed cage. I ran it without it, for a while, but reinstalled it. Can't really tell the difference to be honest.
The original HEBO headlight didn't have any modifications. In fact, it wasn't wired at all. Just loosely hanging from the forks by one strap and another broken strap. Wires were taped over on the ends. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bxq...ew?usp=sharing I rode it to hell and back in this condition, knowing it needed some serious overhauling. Sometimes, I wish I had stuck with the original style plastics.. it's currently wearing 07-11 fenders and subframe, with Marzocchi 50mm from a 2013. Still a very uncommon bike that gets a lot of questions. |

ask anyone and they'll tell you these bikes came in all sorts of configurations back in that day. I bought mine new. From following the original Smackover forum, then this one, the XC is "mostly" as I described.
BTW, finally adding some photos to the "new plastic on older bikes" thread http://www.gasgasrider.org/forum/sho...237#post165237

Definitely looks sharp! I kind of miss my 2k2 flywheel for its snappiness but the the large diameter and extra weight of the 2k3 should help on the single track riding around here. Takes the fun out of riding around town, though.
It's weird how that almost looks "vintage" compared to modern styling on dirt bikes. They're all about sharp angular appearance, for whatever reason. |
