I've had a '12 XC250 since new and it now has about 260 hrs on it. If I had the spare cash, I'd upgrade to a '17 in a second. While my bike is a very good bike IMO, the last 5 years appear to have evolved that good chassis in a ton of good ways.

'12 chasis BE10000013012
'13 chasis BE10000013013
'14 chasis BE10000CT-CAB-1
'15 chasis BE10000CT-CAB-1
'17 chasis BE10000CT-CAB-1

So '14 and on, frame is the same.
12 to 17 triples top and bottom are also the same.

Sub-frame is different from 15 to 17. Plastic is still the same though

Which EURO norm does the new model comply with, 2 or 3?

If all goes well, saturday is the GG3 '17 day.

future plan is to check squish, measure compression, cylinder height, piston to ex port distance, 50T rear, full set of plastics, different muffler, maybe remove starter kit, always on lights etc.

What I don't like is the lack of hi speed compression on the shock, and not yet sure, but it seems like it has ohlins type valve for nitrogen charging.

q: should checkpoints impeler universally fit, as I've read new models have improved WP chamber..maybe modded impeler also.

After you ride that bike your plans will change. You will find the 50t sprocket unnecessary. I ran a 50t on my older GG bikes but on the 15 I stuck with the 48. Also the stock exhaust works very well and the 17 will ha e what seems like 2x the power of the older bikes. Once you get a taste of the e-start there's no way you will take it off. Just spend $75 on a lithium battery and throw the kicker in the trash bin. Lol

Thanks on the writeup.
When past meets future

It has car type thermostat for quicker water heat up. Is this excess item, or do you find any use of it, especially in low rpm cold weather driving.

First impressions, no real riding yet.

Rubber boot for handlebar throttle mechanism is missing or not supplied.
Fork upper clickers range: left 22, right 18
Starter just grinds, no engine rotation, even w/o sparkpug. Battery shows 12.5V. I really hope its battery related.

Squish >2mm.
Needle N1EF, will use for break in.
Supplied CHN, seems as lean as N3EG at idle and leaner at the tip. Single taper.
Sparkplug denso.
No coolant expansion chamber.

Bike a bit more fiddly for dismantling, polisport tad lower quality than he-bo plastics.

Gear shifting excellent feel.

Have repositioned footpegs to lover position, this does move them at bit forward.
Had to rethread one of the footpeg bracket bolts and its mating frame thread, as they used screw with mangled thread. Fixable no problem.

Chain seems tad short, slack 3.5cm, tyre already rubbing shock protector, and it needs even more slack. (no way to fit 50T on this chain)

Electric cables are nicely sorted, no chaos behind front mask.

When tilting bike left to right at standstil, seems very slow, top heavy. Blame the the battery suppose. Li ion presume is lighter.

That about sums it up. I did arrange a bike to be in a test of a national car bike magazine.

I have kept the thermostat in my 13 model for last 170hrs. Not really needed in my climate, but no issues with it.

CHN needle is part of the emissions controls to be used with airbox restrictor and catalytic converter pipe. Throw it away.

Your starter problem is the battery, should read 13.8 to 14.2
