Default GasGas with a 4 speed?

I just picked up an '01 GG 250 with a MC chassis and apparently EC engine. To make a long story short it was apparently a one-off hybrid specially built for some press coverage. Anyways, I purchased the bike assuming it had a 6 speed transmission, however this weekend I took it out for a play ride and realized it was just a 4 speed. Did GG ever make an '01 250 motor with a 4 speed or is this also somehow a one-off?

Thanks,
Eric

I could see it if it was intended for motocross. Would not be the fist time i have seen something like that in bikes. My friend bought a RM250 with a 3 speed in it a long time ago. The 4th and 5th gear were just fault plastic ones. Great for the track because you ploped her into 3rd and gave her crap. Sounds like you got a rare engine on your hands.

It is not a "one off". Sounds like you purchased a 2001 MC250 , which came with a 4 speed wide ratio transmission. Does it have a 19" rear wheel too?

It does have a 19-inch rear wheel, but I was told that the motor is an EC 250. EC250 is even stamped into the side of the motor just above the engine serial number. However, perhaps you are really correct and the reality is that it is all MC 250, both chassis and motor. I am now wondering if it is realistic, dollar wise, to look for a used 6 speed transmission or even an EC motor to swap in.

Both the mc and ec 250 300 are based on the same engine you can convert to a six speed without to much trouble. look in the for sale section . I'm pretty sure steve at motowest will have what you need
