Default Frustration ^2

I got my gaskets yesterday, 13 days after I ordered them.
Many of them are wrong - either wrong bike or wrong place on my bike.
Water outlet gasket is way too big (I ordered two, great). Maybe a later model bike, or just plain wrong bike... I dunno. It's not like I didn't say that everything was for a 2001 xc300
Center crankcase gasket that I didn't order. Who knows if that's correct for a 2001. Always something extra that I didn't order from this vendor too.

Base gaskets look funny compared to the circa 2001 gasket I used a few months ago. Not sure about that... I'll know later today

The boys are riding this weekend. Will I be there?
It's not looking good, unless I blow off work so I can play parts detective and then buy overnight shipping.

-Dean
missing the season
trying a new vendor

Sure its not Bob and North Tahoe. I can think of few clueless vendors in my neck of the woods.

Just deal with Smith's Powersports in Imperial PA, or Hall's. They both stock a lot and know the bikes, excellent dealers. I have had some screw ups myself from other vendors in the past, I attributed it to cheap summer help that did not give a crap.

i'm assuming you mean the water outlet on the cylinder head? there are several different ones.... i just make mine, a sheet of gasket paper, a set of punches and an exacto have fixed many last minute problems......

there are 3 different thicknesses of base gasket.. i believe they're all the same aside from thickness....

The vendor is attempting to fix the problem. Thanks.

Yes, that's the gasket. And I made the last two myself also. I just was trying to make the order worth everybody's time. And I never mind having the details look correct.

In a case where there are several different this or that, I would help the customer determine which one is the desired item.

I wouldn't have worried about the thickness of the base gasket until I wandered into this nut-house. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing. Anybody know what the three thicknesses are? These are looking like ~0.59mm ? (one is just a spare, I'm not starting stacking and carving).

Thanks again to the vendor for getting on top of it.

OK, these are called .5mm. Maybe they crush down to that when installed. The others are .3 and .15mm.

the three sizes of base gaskets allow you to fine tune your compression/port timing in your motor. hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me will chime in and let you know what a good baseline setup is.

Here are two of the water outlet variations. My 2001 bike's head uses the smaller one, which I was told began in 2003.

Make note which one you have and be specific wherever you order.
