reed valves for VF3
What would be the best reeds for more low end torque for my '08 300?

When GASGAS introduced the VF3 reedvalve on their bikes it turned out to be very disappointing compared to the VF2 set in low tension mode. I took my VF3 out after three rides and replaced it with my old VF2.
The VF2 in low tension mode gives the GG250/300 smooth low end power without sacrificing anything on top. I really disliked the way the VF3 made my EC300 run. Kent |

Anybody tried Boyesen dual stage reeds on the VF3?

The special configuration of the V-Force reed valves do not allow any other reed petals than standard V-Force issue to be used, as far as I know.

The VF2 allows reed tension to be adjusted whereas the VF3 does not. The VF2 has to be adjusted to the low tension setting or it behaves just like the VF3. The VF2 broadens the powerband with no loss on top. The only minor drawback is that the reed petals wear out faster in the low tension setting.

The VF2 in low tension will make a big difference in low end pull on the 250, so if you have a 250 and a "lug it" riding style this is a good mod to try. Check the casting area of the cases where the reeds can touch. My '07 that has a VF3 was machined nice but on the older bikes that came with the RAD valve it is likely rough sand cast in this area. If your converting to a VF2 or VF3 work the surfaces to a smooth finnish with a fine flat jewelers file, fine paper, and metal polish. Work evenly and keep the surface parallel. This will provide max reed life and a season with the VF2 reeds in low tension should be no problem.

The VF2 is no longer manufactured. A number of companies list the required model (V2M05) on their web sites, but they carry no stock and expect that they can fill an order from the manufacturer. Not possible.
So, even if you wanted a VF2, I don't know from where you'd get it. If you do find a source of V2M05s, please post it here. Dale |

The VF2 (V2M05) was made for the Honda CR250. It never came on the GG bikes. On the 2006 and never bikes it fits directly but on the pre 2006 bikes you'll need the newer manifold that is used with the VF3.
