Default Series of "Classic" KTM questions

My nephew recently picked up a 1999 KTM 300. He has an opportunity to pick up a 1997 project bike (typical craigslist "needs top end"). Before I go poking around on "that" site, I figured I would start here. What parts will cross between the 1999 and 1997 300 models? We are thinking, at minimum, wheels and suspension, but it would be cool if the bodywork, tank, seat, etc would bolt on in case of needed spares.

Any chance anyone here would know the difference between those model years?

Unless I'm mistaken, the 98 model KTMs received an entirely new chassis that sported an all new, revolutionary PDS linkless design! I also know that that's the first year that they were pumpkin orange versus the more yellowy orange of some prior years. As far as what might still be interchangeable, I really don't know.

I had a '98 200 and '99 300. '98 was first year PDS. Motor is the same as '97 I think, as well as wheels. Ask on the pumpkin site for more complete info.

Thanks for the info. Knowing that was a transition year I will ask on KTMTalk for fine details.
