Default 300xc what gearing works best??

What gearing works best on the 300 for tight stuff?

I’ve got a 14/48 on it, but that is taller than I use to run on my MXC300 or my TE570. I always like 13/50, but I do have a 53 for the GasGas. That would put me at 14/53 or 3.78, where 13/50 is 3.84 . Right now second is somewhat low, but third is too tall for the tighter trails. Before I pull the wheel again and change stuff I was just wondering what others are running.

Thanks

Ive been running stock gearing 14/48 was thinking of going up to a 50 rear, but many have metioned it makes the throttle very jumpy, and I cant have that where I ride, its very tight and not much room to wind it out,so control is important for me,I find third is lugging it while second is screaming most of the time, second works fine for the tight snot around here, probably about a 15 MPH avg.

That's how my second and third feels on the tight stuff. We run 13/50 on the EXC250 and I seem to ride that bike faster and really whip it around quicker. Could be the weight too, my 01 XC300 GG feels heavy where the EXC feels smaller and light.

Only my second day on the 300 so maybe I need to get use to riding a gear higher and lugging it.

I was wrong, my son has a 14/52 (3.71) on his EXC250.

These day I seem to need more control and chugging power, than speed. I’m not racing anymore and most of my riding is with my kids at their trail pace. I’ll switch it up to the 14/53 this week and give it a go, plus that will force me it install my new Maxxis IT.
