My '02 GG 125xc crank bearings have been a bit clattery for a while - thinking of doing the bottom end over, and I'd image that the crank is getting tired too. Where is a good place to get a crank rebuilt (New England a bonus)?

You could start by giving Les a call at LTR......

Andrew Cooksey at cookseycranks in TX does good work too; don't have his contact info but you can google him.

Personally I'd send it to RB Designs. YZ125 rod kit, nothing special about it.

'Kay -
I have some of LRTs work and...I'm not a big fan. I contacted the other two guys - both seem willing, but neither seem to have much GasGas-specific experience, not that it matters, although I'd have to dig up a rod myself in both cases - neither can verify the YZ125 rod swap (and here is the first I heard of it myself). Incidentally, Cooksey is $20 more expensive than RB ($75 shipped vs $55 shipped). Cheap either way though. GMP - Any verification of the YZ125 kit available? I'm also still wanting to try a complete '89-99 CR125 clutch swap. I've heard mixed reviews on direct compatibility for the clutch. JayC |

The YZ125 rod is a straight swap, it will 100% work.
This is the rod kit you want http://www.hotrodsproducts.com/Produ...px?item_id=865. I used this kit myself in my 125. When I pulled the engine down originally, the rod that it used was a versah with a part number that was for a YZ rod. I believe that the versah rod was the oem piece. |

Yes, all GGs use Japanese Vesrah rod kits, like the various Hondas and Yamahas. Also, as far as the clutch, we sent ours directly to Hinson and they matched up their CR125 parts, works good.

So, the rod is the same as a '86-'96 Yamaha YZ125. Good to know. I've heard that the rest of the crank does NOT swap with a YZ - true? I used a YZ piston when I did the top end last year - I think it was for an '00 model.
The clutch is the same as a '86-'99 CR125 clutch. Can I just drop in a complete CR125 clutch - complete with primary gear (on the back of the clutch basket)? I was thinking of trying a complete assy from e-bay if I can find one in good shape. thanks - JayC |

Correct on all counts. Crank does not swap, looks close but no go, tried it.
Not sure about the entire CR clutch with gear. You could always buy the entire assy and just replace the gear. If the primary ratios are the same maybe it will as the mounting holes are the same. |
