The 8-32 AL series is what I used in the frame hole. Drilled it out with an "F" drill. Filed it slightly to match the insert. There is a video on their site that shows the installation process. A basic tool is available for hand work.

You mean on the subframe where the little plastic screws mount the side plates? I found some perfectly sized brass bolts with flat blade head that fit the thread right on.. No drilling or anything.

I can't even imagine trying to install the filter from the top on an e-start. Two screws and the left side panel pops right off. At first I didn't care for the spring loaded filter holder but once I got used to it I think its a hell of an idea.

450's are the same way. I flop the battery out of the way to get to the spring loaded holder and then just be careful. The dirt falling back in is what bothers me the most as its not easy keeping things clean. They should have made the tray hinged so as to move it out of the way.

Left side is the only way to go.

I cut off part of the battery bracket on mine to give a little more clearance. It's still a PITA, but at least it's less of a PITA now.

My left side cover is riveted on. For you guys that take off the cover, did you have to drill the subframe and use bolts/nuts? I think getting to a nut in that space would be an even bigger PITA.

Jacobi used a different screw into the plastic frame insert. I removed the insert and replaced it with a metal one. See the earlier posts in this topic.

ditto! those look like decent inserts, the ones on my huksy were always spinning.

the other side is that changing the air filter SHOULD be the EASIEST thing on the bike. it is the most critical and frequent maintenance needed and it should be the simplest.

I have managed to get a dzus working and a plastic plug fit for the bottom so that I only need a flatheadto get to the filter.
