Generally speaking.. never put in anything that says "energy conserving" on the label....lots of the good stuff like zinc and phosphorus are removed for extended life of oxidation catalysts......some even have moly added...also not good for a clutch...
like HD says stick with a recommended oil for a 2T gearbox it will have the correct additives....not too sure about going heavier than GAS GAS recommends....I personally stick with 10/30 looks like got us a bonafide oil thread going here..... |

clutch squawk
I run atf automatic transmission fluid in my 300 raga trials bike. Talk about clutch abuse. Has anyone on here ran it in an enduro bike. Do u think it would hurt it. Must be good stuff because car manufacturers don't recommend changing it but every 50,000 miles. Automatic transmissions are full of clutches that are made to slip

My 2010 300 squealed like a stuck pig. I run a full quart of 15w40 and also tried a couple of different oils. I am hardly a clutch abuser and my other bikes have never done that, riding the same trails.
I ended up putting a Rekluse in, problem solved. |

I used to run ATF in my bikes 'til I could afford gearbox oil. That's what my dad ran, and we had quarts of it on the shelf. We never had clutch issues.
As one guy once said: "How do it know?"

I emailed the guys at the factory about this. They are on holidays this week so I don't expect a reply until next week. Those guys have more holidays than work days!
BTW....I had a little bit of clutch squeal on my 2010 nambo but it went away after a few hours on it. I use Motorex 2T tranny oil. I really like Motorex products. Clay |

I have an 08 EC 300 and 2 buddies I ride with have 09's, all 3 of our bikes have squawky clutches under heavy slipping. I use Belray gear oil 80w, one guy uses the Honda brand trans oil, and the other uses Castro GTX 10w40. I don't think it's an oil issue, it's something in the clutch design it's self. My bike's clutch squawked with the stock plates/springs and still squawks with the Moose kit. It also could have something to do with the torque the 300 produces? |
