Headlight bulb

I have 2011 ec 300 that I bought without a working headlight.

Now I know an h4 bulb fits perfectly in the headlight but when I turn it on the outside gets pretty hot. I'm wondering if in the long run it would melt the plastic lens. An h4 draws 55w, I'm also wondering if that's too much for the bikes electrical system.

I was watching a led h4 bulb on the famous auction site witch claims to be 1500 lumens. At 10$ for 2 bulbs it almost seems to good to be true. Has anyone had good luck with the cheaper led bulbs like this one.

Check this thread http://www.gasgasrider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=21175 For our purpose, i think LED's are perfect even tough they put less light out but then again we use them only once in a while.

Just realized the bulb in my link is 80w.

That seems like a lot for a led. Do they mean 80w equivalent or does it actually draw 80w?.

In the other discussion the led bulb does not with the base plate that will fit in the headlight. I've been looking to find haven't yet.

Standard GG globe on my 450 is a Phillips HS1 35w/35w (HS1 same base plate as H4' which is hy the H4 does fit)

Buy from any good parts store. The 35w stuff is moto specific, no excess heat or draw

I've had a $10 55W H4 from the auto parts store on my 13 for 2 years.

Headlight bulb

Get a cyclops LED bulb, they will never break and last forever. I had put one on my gasgas and now my KTM. Less wattage and no heat!

And it is bright!!

So I ordered the led h4 bulb (the one with the big heat sink).

Plugged it in, started the bike up and it lights up... Until I rev then it shuts off.

It's supposed to work from 6-80 volts, I contacted the seller and he's sending me a new one. So that's great.

Now while doing a whole bunch of tests I realized that when I rev the bike the voltage up to at least 16 vac.

Would a faulty regulator be my problem?

What could cause a regulator to blow like that? I had just changed it.

I did more tests today, found out that when using a standard h4 bulb the voltage is at a steady 12.5 volts even whith high revs. With the headlight off the voltage will climb as previously mentioned.

I want to run the small wedge type DRL light in the front and only turn the headlight on when needed, but I think leds dont draw enough power for the regulator to do its job.

I'll be getting a regular type wedge bulb this week to do more tests.

Ive been running a 65/55 H4 for almost 2 years now. you certainly dont want to leave it on when parked, but when in motion it has not melted anything.

I just installed a nice led unit from OPT7 Fluxbeam which has its own internal cooling fan. Very bright low and high beam.
