CLock/Speedo unit not working

2005 250EC

My clock does not want to come on. I have tried another one but alas, same thing. I have therefore eliminated that issue. It seems as if it is just not getting power. I have checked connections and seem in tact. Checked against the wiring diagram and seems to be connected correctly. There is power in the system as the light and hooter work, but not the damned clock
I have absolutely no bloody idea about electrical and wiring.

Any grand ideas? Please not too technical though

Is there a battery in the back of the speedo unit?
The older round style speedos used an "N" type battery I believe.
The newer rectangle shaped ones use a 9V.
Check to be sure, that may be your problem.

Thanks a lot. How easy was that not !!!!
Battery in and clock working. Now that was the type of easy solution I was looking for:)

As for GG user manual:confused:
Well, I dont think its worth the paper its printed on. It doesn't even let you know there is a battery. I have also come across other serious short comings in there. This besides all the Spanish words thrown in here and there and some lovely spelling mistakes just for good measure.

Where exactly is the battery?

Remove the clock, turn it up side down. There you will see 2 screws. Its under that cover

Here are 2 pics of my speedo.
First one is altogether.

This is it with the back off.

Where is the battery exactly?

slocalspode 11-09-2008 11:12 AM

That is the newer AceWell speedo. I don't think this one has a battery.
It gets it's power from the motorcycle or from an add-on 9V battery.
This this post for a discussion on how to attach the add-on 9V battery.

This is the type of speedo I was talking about with the other type
of batteries mounted in the back.

The top one is the older style from around 2002. The lower one came with,
(I beleive) the 2003-2006 models. Please correct me if I am wrong.
I was asking in that earlier post how to hook up the newer, 2002, to a wiring
harness set up for the older round gage style. I never got an answer.
I now have a fancy clock on my EC300 with no other functions.
I did pick up one of the newer AceWell gages a couple months ago. I may
try and mount that one and see if I can get it to work.
Best of luck, Jeff

oops. that was an even earlier post where I was asking about hooking
up my new gage to the old wiring harness. I can't seem to find that
post any more.
Oh well, you get the idea.
Cheers, Jeff

If it dosen't have a battery how does it keep a memory?

slocalspode 11-10-2008 01:28 PM

I think you need to mount an external battery to
keep the memory function working.
Check out the thread I posted a link to in the
above reply.
It shows how another member solved his mounting
problems.
Good luck, Jeff
