I had this question a while back. The answer is in posts #6 and #9 of this thread.

http://www.gasgasrider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=2295

Sounds like the '03 that I had. The '04s had a painted frame, 45mm Marzocchis. I don't know how far back the "plated" frame with the inverted forks went and I don't know the plating material.

I think the frame is Nickel plated. Many have had problems with it rusting or peeling off but my '00 is holding up great. The kids '04 is painted. I thought the last year was '01 to be nickel plated?

Default vin code

Hope this helps, I thought I had posted this once before..guess not.

VTREC2000D0134023

VTR EC2000 D 01 3 4023
bike model year code month year serie number

The year code starts on 2000 with letter A. So, 2008 models are J. Letter "I" is not included in order to avoid any misunderstanding.
So, in this case, the bike is an Enduro 200 from 2003, made on January 2003.

HOWEVER!!! Some models from 01 to 03 were brought into the US as XC's. Then you go by the 8th and 9th numbers as the year code....Example VTRXC2501 would indicate it was a XC 250 year model 01. Send me a private email if you have any questions.

It's been a while since I verified the vin on that '03 so I could be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure it was an '03 and it had the plated frame.
