Wheel bearing removal help.
Hey folks,
I'm trying to remove my front and back wheel bearings from the Gasser, and they refuse to budge. My question for you more technically savvy folks is, can the wheel bearings be hit from one side, against the spacer in hopes of popping the other side out? Or do they have to be pulled. I also haven't tired heat yet. I'm a bit of a beginner when it comes to this kind of thing. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Steve. |

Need to be driven out from the opposite side or removed with a blind bearing puller/slidehammer. If punching out you need to get to the back side of the bearing you want out. Slide the inner tube across some and you should have a few mm to perch on. Use some heat on the hub (not too much) if you want to help things along.. And always pay lots of attention to details - many times circlips have been overlooked and resulted in a lack of progress.

Ok here is a video of all the wheel bearing removal and install "secrets" Iv been using for years.
At 1.50 is how to move the spacer if you only heat one side at a time they will almost fallout. Enjoy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7GQI6Hh1bI If it is a 03 or newer there is a spacer between the bearings on the sprocket side it MUST be put back in the correct way. http://www.gasgasrider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=2566

and
when u push the bearing out from the other side, make sure that it comes out pretty straight and doesn t tilt. Give it only a few hits on one segment of the inner side of the bearing, then some on the other (of the inner) side. Otherwise the old bearing will jam and ruin the inner hub. Same with installation of the new ones.
Some wd40 before removal may make it easier.

The photo of the drive-side doesn't show the step-washer that goes between the double bearing.
